Entrepreneurs

Came across an interesting article in Business Insider geared towards future entrepreneurs.  If you are looking to start your own business and have lofty aspirations, below are some good recommendations of online courses that you should take.   Many of these require some diligence and effort, but you wouldn’t be an entrepreneur if you weren’t willing to put in some time.  Besides, learning and/or mastering these courses could separate you from the crowd, and could be the difference between success and failure.  Good luck!

Torture

I admit that I’m an optimist.  I filter out the bad and look for anything good that can be used to explain why something may or may not happen.  Why focus on negativity when all it will do is bring you down.  Ok, so now that all of that is out of the way, I want to focus on the 2016 San Francisco Giants.  My favorite life-long team, I have followed them through thick and thin since I was a child.  From 1B Will Clark to LF Barry Bonds to C Buster Posey to SP Madison Bumgarner, there have been some legends to don the black and orange.  I even omit Hall of Famers Willie Mays and Willie McCovey from this conversation because they were a bit before my time.  So the question is, where are the Giants going this year. At the All-Star break, the Giants seem destined to win another World Series in what would be their 4th since 2010.  Something superstitious about even years, having won 2010, 2012 and 2014, the Giants were devouring every team in their path, leading the majors with a 57-33 record in the first half.  Since then, they have fallen out of first place by going 20-32, and that is after just sweeping the last place Arizona Diamondbacks.  What has happened to them?  Their roster is solid and they still lead the wildcard, but they have seemingly lost their balance and their mojo.  Their offense stalls when they need to score a run and their bullpen falters when they have the lead.  They have lost too many 1-run games in the 2nd half and just have not been able to find the answer.  The Giants are simply slumping and have lost their way.  Or have they?  The Giants usually like to torture their fans when they win.  Why win convincingly when you can make the games more interesting?  Who will be the guy to step up this year?  Their last 3 titles were won because of gritty performances from unexpected contributors.  From my vantage point, I think the Giants have the national league right where they want them.

Overwhelmed in Life

Isn’t it crazy that the older we get, the busier we get?  You don’t understand how simple life really is in your youth.  You wake up, eat, go to school, take some tests, talk to some friends, go to practice, eat dinner, do some chores and go to sleep, and do it all over again.  Then you go to college, study,  take some mid terms and finals, meet some friends, go to some parties and go to sleep.  You have responsibilities, sure, but they are nothing like what an adult will face once working a 50+hour work week, getting married, having kids, owning and managing a home, doing your taxes, taking care of your family, trying to stay in shape, and dealing with real-life issues.  Health, faith, money, work/life balance, legal issues, divorce, vacations…all of these things equal stress.  It can be very easy to get overwhelmed with life and everybody deals with it in different ways.  The important thing is, don’t stress yourself out when things happen that are out of your control.  Take it one step at a time and do your best to deal with what life throws you.

Don’t be this guy – take matters into your own hands.  Be in control.

Like everyone, I’ve made lots of mistakes in my life. It’s just in our human nature to make them. Whether it is a bad decision, incorrect assumption made, poor judgment or lack thereof, such opportunities for making a wrong turn or running a red light are boundless. They will continue to surface through your lifetime and it is up to you identify them, learn from them and do your best not to repeat them. So it’s not all bad news to make mistakes as long as they make you smarter and wiser. All successful businessmen and women will tell you that they wouldn’t be where they are at in life or in their career if they didn’t at some point make a mistake that cost them. Nobody is perfect, so don’t worry yourself too much about the little things. It’s ambitious to want to be a perfectionist, but sometimes that can backfire on you if it causes you to become less efficient.

Improve Your Argument

Have you ever been in a conversation or meeting with another person or group where you were so convinced that you were right but there is a comeback for everything you say? In these instances, sometimes your emotions can get the best of you. You feel your temperature rising, your stress level spikes, and all you can think about is how well you didn’t prepare for the meeting. You don’t plan to fail, you fail to plan. But that’s not the message here. When you find yourself in this situation, it’s important to stay cool and collected. You have to figure out how to bring your A game everyday, to every situation that presents itself. When the argument you are trying to make fails, it’s because it’s not good enough. Don’t get angry. Don’t get upset. Be better than that. Don’t be that guy.

When Your Back is Against the Wall

Have you ever been in a no win situation? When the odds are completely stacked against you and seemingly, you have no options? Inevitably, this will happen to everyone at some point in life. Whether it is a personal or business situation, between family or friends, or perhaps financial or legal issues, life just isn’t fair. When your back is up against the wall, sometimes you just have to sit back, look at the big picture, and as cliche as this sounds, think out of the box. In other words, you have to rewrite the rules if you want to resolve and/or address your issue. Easier said than done, right? Pour yourself a glass of scotch, take a deep breath, and go back to the drawing board. Sometimes the answer is right in front of you and you do not even see it.  I love Suits!

Best Bruce Lee Movie!!

This is one of my favorite Bruce Lee movies of all time, let alone one of my all-time favorites!  It is very nostalgic to watch this movie, as it brings me back to my youth.   Reminds me of practicing karate with my brother, performing karate demonstrations with our dojo, and competing in tournaments.  Miss those days!!
